Port House is designed to care for up to two children or young people between the ages of 7 and 17, of all genders, who require medium to long-term placements.
Port House is Situated in Newport South Wales. The home is located in a quiet area but has very good transport links to Cardiff and Bristol. Newport offers a variety of activities including a shopping centre, leisure Centre, cinema, glorious Canal Walks along Fourteen Locks / Newport Wetlands or Historic visits to a 17th Century Mansion at Tredegar House, or the National Roman Legion Museum at Caerleon complete with an Amphitheater.
If you’re a keen Biker, Newport has its very own Velodrome or 15 minutes up the road in Cwmcarn it has the Scenic Drive, complete with a number of downhill tracks, that has previously hosted the British Downhill championships.

Huw Goodman
Manager at Port House
Huw Goodman holds a QCF Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care Services (Children and Young People’s Residential Management) and is registered with Social Care Wales. With over 12 years’ experience in children’s and adult mental health services, Huw has developed strong leadership and risk management skills. He is trained in trauma-informed practice and has completed Level 1 Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP). As the manager of Ty Caredig, Huw promotes a nurturing, trauma-informed environment using the PACE model (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy). He supports staff development through reflective practice and encourages open, honest relationships with young people. Huw is committed to continuous improvement and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of both the staff team and those in his care.
